A belated congrats to Iain, my intern, for the Divemaster certification he earned in September 2007.
After an interesting 2007 for myself and Scubajive I am looking forward to and getting ready for 2008.
Shutting the shop up at the end of October 2007 made for a well earned rest. Getting a quick dive in down at Gibralter with my friends at Duquesa diving before taking myself off to stay with some diving buddies in Florida (you really do meet some great people diving). Got some excellent wreck diving done down in the Florida Keys along with some more hunting for shark's teeth off Venice beach. I visited Mel Fisher's museum down in Key West (treasure hunting supremo). Spending Christmas in England for the first time in a few years was cold! I was happy to return to Spain to contnue working on my house.
I met some great people diving last year and look forward to meeting many more in 2008.
Maybe this year Vince will get his Rescue Diver course done? Who knows!
We also have another dive site! This one offers depth beyond 40 meters. Mind you, after 16 meters it gets a bit "Lunar" (as in the moon). However, before then there is plenty to see. We now also have a shore dive going by the name of Rio Alias.
We now have our nine seater mini bus, a Mercedes Vito, in gleaming white! No more car pooling, we can all go to the dive sites together.
The newest dive site has been named Skull Canyon and there is plenty to see along with a good number of swin throughs to add to the excitement.
It's been pretty quiet over the winter months here at Scubajive but we are looking forward to seeing a good number of qualified divers and novices over the following months.
I (Duncan) have been hard at work carrying out improvements to the dive centre, giving it a more defined shopping / meet and greet area.
The changing room with shower is all finished, giving the option of a warm shower if wanted after diving with us.
The separate air conditioned classroom (a PADI requirement for teaching) is also completed and ready.
All instructional DVDs are displayed via a projector onto a large screen (no small screens to squint at). We also have all necessary training aids to assist in EFR, Nitrox etc.
A large diver down flag (recognized the world over) can now be seen sitting on top of a pole at the front of the shop making it easier for the newly arriving divers to the area to spot the dive centre.
A new air conditioned 9 seater bus is on order to transport divers and their kit to the many dive sites available.
A comprehensive range of dive kit is now in stock and anything else can be obtained in a few days from our supplier.
When not working on the above improvements I have been out looking for new dive sites, for both training and fun, as and when the weather will allow.
Myself and Iain, my DM intern, have found various new sites for both depth and night, all accessible from the shore.
Watch this space for more news coming soon!
